ON THE SIDELINES : Bear Linebacker Hurt in Fight

LAKE FOREST, ILL. — If linebacker Mickey Pruitt of the Chicago Bears plays Sunday, it will be with a cast on his left hand after a fight with guard Mark Bortz.
Pruitt, a 6-1, 220-pound sub and special teams player, broke a bone in the hand during practice Wednesday, but was expected to play at Denver. Bortz, 6-6 and 270, was unhurt.
Chicago Bears’ Coach Mike Ditka said the incident took place during the team’s closed practice session, but would not elaborate.
“I don’t remember what he broke his hand on. Maybe it was my helmet,” Bortz, 29, said. “I don’t think I took that many punches.”
Pruitt, 25, refused to talk to reporters.
