LOS ALAMITOS : Heisajoy Beats Jazzing Hi

Heisajoy scored a victory by a head over Jazzing Hi in the $172,000 Breeders Championship Classic for quarter horses Saturday at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Tee Roy Reb finished third, another nose back. Defending world champion See Me Do It, the favorite at 4-5, was fourth.
Dash For Speed, the second choice, was sixth.
Heisajoy, a five-year-old gelding, ran the 440 yards in 21.47 seconds. He paid $15 for the victory.
Heisajoy, ridden by James Lackey and trained by H.L. Hooper, scored his 14th victory in 22 starts.
Wagering of $2,113,523 Saturday night at Los Alamitos was a record for a quarter-horse racing card, breaking the record set at Los Alamitos Aug. 14, 1982.
On-track attendance, boosted by a wallet giveaway, was 8,019 and the handle $1,402,633. Off-track attendance was 4,156 and the handle $710,890. The old record handle was $1,889,356.
The program featured eight stake races with total purses of $400,000.
