The Master’s College soccer team entered the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics Championships at the College of Boca Raton on Monday looking for a little respect.
After playing West Virginia Weslyan, the No. 1-seeded team in the 12-team tournament, to a 1-1 tie, the 12th-seeded Mustangs accomplished their goal.
Master’s (9-10-4) took a 1-0 lead at the 18-minute mark of the second half when Chris Palm scored his 17th goal of the season on an assist from Jorge Barba and Randy Whitfield.
Weslyan (17-1-3) countered with a goal of its own 10 minutes later.
Master’s, the NAIA District 3 champion, will play William Carey (Miss.) College (14-3-0) in a pool play match at 8 a.m. today.
