To encourage area residents to shop in Sierra Madre, the city will provide local businesses with up to 10 free transportation tokens per month for the Dial-A-Ride minibus service.
The new program, which will cost an estimated $10,000 yearly, was recently approved by the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission, said City Manager James McRea.
The LACTC also approved a $25,000 plan for the city to provide Dial-A-Ride subsidies for senior citizens and the handicapped. Both programs become effective Nov. 25.
