OJAI : Center to Pay Cab Fare for Inebriates

An Ojai drug and alcohol treatment center is offering to pick up cab fare Thanksgiving Day for Ojai Valley residents who have had too many drinks to drive.
From noon Thursday to noon Friday, Ojai Cab will take passengers who have been drinking anywhere within Casitas Springs, Oak View, Mira Monte, Meiners Oaks, Ojai and upper Ojai for free, said Steve Yue, marketing coordinator for New Beginnings, a 20-bed chemical dependency program based at Ojai Valley Community Hospital.
Yue said the center sponsored a free cab program over the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s holidays last year, but ended up underwriting cab fare for only 20 people. He encouraged people who feel evenly slightly intoxicated to use the service this year.
“If it saves one life, it will have been worth it,” he said.
