The Gleitsman Foundation is accepting nominations for the 1991 Gleitsman Award, a gift of $100,000 bestowed each year on individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to bringing about positive social change.
Nov. 30 is the deadline for submitting nominations. Those honored receive, in addition to the cash, a commemorative sculpture commissioned by the foundation and created by Maya Lin, who designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington.
The Gleitsman Foundation was established in 1989 by Alan Gleitsman, a Southern California business executive and philanthropist, to encourage activism that “makes a difference.” Last year’s award was shared by Deborah C. McKeithan, an activist for the handicaped, and Sophia Bracy Harris, who helped found a federation of child-care centers in Alabama.
Nomination forms are available from the Gleitsman Foundation, 6100 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 400, Los Angeles, Calif. 90048, (213) 965-1990.
