Carlsbad Youth Tied for Second in Tourney

TUCSON — Carlsbad’s Travis Williams and three others are tied for second place after first-round play Thursday in the Rolex Junior Classic at the La Paloma Country Club.
Williams shot a 35-39-74, and trails leaders Jason Gore of Valencia and Stewart Cink of Florence, Ala., by a stroke.
The par-72 course is 7,038 yards.
Also in the boys’ division, Chula Vista’s Brian Smock shot 39-41--80, and Solana Beach’s Tim Hart of Solana Beach shot 38-43--81. Todd Demsey of Rancho Santa Fe shot 43-41--84.
