UCLA Women Lose Opener to Iowa, 81-52

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Tricia Waugh collected 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead Iowa to an 81-52 victory over UCLA Saturday in the first round of the Amana-Hawkeye women’s basketball tournament.
In the other first-round game, Dana Chapman scored 29 points to power Louisiana State past Kansas, 74-63. Misti Chennault scored 22 points for Kansas.
Iowa will play LSU in today’s championship game, with UCLA meeting Kansas in the third-place game.
The Lady Hawkeyes built a 36-24 lead at halftime and then roared away from the Bruins with a 13-6 surge to start the second half.
Toni Foster scored 16 points and Cassandra Rahming and Necole Tunsill each added 11 for Iowa, which made 56% of its shots in the second half.
Rehema Stephens had 14 points for UCLA, Detra Lockhart added 12 and Gen van Oosten had 11.
