OXNARD : Trade Mission to China Planned

Representatives from 40 small businesses in Ventura County plan to peddle their goods during a world trade mission to China in April, the first such venture offered through the World Trade Center Assn. in Oxnard.
The mission follows a July visit to the county by six mayors from Chinese port cities, said Thomas Rainey, executive director of the association.
Local business people, who had already planned to attend an annual three-day meeting in Hong Kong in April, will also visit trade centers in the Chinese port cities of Shanghai and Ningbo.
“I think it’s going to be a tremendous opportunity for small and medium-size companies to get their foot in the door over there,” Rainey said.
The two-week business trip is being organized by Gregory Stone, a California Lutheran University professor who directed a similar mission in January for 23 students and small businesses.
Stone said he hopes to help small businesses overcome fears of international trade.
