SEAL BEACH : Blinders Imposed on Erotic Displays

The City Council this week gave initial approval to a law that would require blinders on racks displaying sexually explicit materials.
The law, which will be up for final approval Dec. 10, calls for the lower two-thirds of sexually explicit materials to be covered. Violation of the law will be a misdemeanor.
Councilwoman Marilyn Bruce Hastings said the ordinance was prompted by complaints from residents about sexually explicit videotape covers and magazines on display at liquor stores.
“I’d like to eliminate (sexually explicit materials) altogether, but I understand state law prohibits that,” Mayor Edna Wilson said.
