California IN BRIEF : ONTARIO : Two Small Quakes Cause No Damage

Two small earthquakes shook western San Bernardino County, but the temblors, which hit within eight hours of each other, were scarcely felt by residents. Authorities said there were no reports of damage. The 2.7-magnitude quakes were centered about six miles southeast of Ontario, said a spokesman for the seismology lab at Caltech in Pasadena. “They are related, but you can’t call (the second quake) an aftershock of the first,” spokesman Robert Finn added. A spokesman for Ontario police said the department received only a handful of calls.
