STREAMLINED: Selecting a jury for a well-publicized trial like Dr. Thomas A. Gionis’ used to take one to three weeks, but the job probably will be done today after only three days. . . . The difference? Gionis’ trial is the first major one in the county in which the jury is being selected under Proposition 115. Passed by voters in June, the new law mimics the federal system of placing control of jury questioning in the hands of the judge, not the lawyers. . . . Lawyers’ questioning can be exhaustive. In 1988, jury selection in the Randy Kraft murder trial took about three months.
