Sierra Madre : Speed Limits to Be Lowered
- Share via
Following the safety recommendation of Police Chief Bill Betts, the City Council has tentatively decided to lower maximum speed limits on five streets in Sierra Madre’s canyon area from 25 to 15 m.p.h.
Affected streets include Woodland Drive, Brookside Lane, Alta Vista Drive, Oakdale Drive, Vista Circle and Sturtevant Drive east of Woodland Drive.
State law allows municipalities to reduce 25-m.p.h. maximum speed limits to 20 or 15 m.p.h. on streets less than 25 feet wide if an engineering or traffic survey determines that the current speed limit is “more than is reasonable or safe.”
Members of the public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed speed reductions at the next City Council meeting Dec. 11, before a final vote on the ordinance.
