Hollywood : ‘No. 1 Son’ to Get Star

Keye Luke, an actor who remains closely identified with his role as Charlie Chan’s No. 1 son, will be honored on Dec. 5 with the 1,925th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Luke, 85, was the first male actor of Asian descent “to make a name for himself in the motion picture industry,” according to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which coordinates the Walk of Fame.
The ceremony will take place in front of the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, 7000 Hollywood Blvd., at 10:30 a.m.
Luke made his film debut opposite Greta Garbo in 1934 in “The Painted Veil.” In all, Luke appeared in more than 150 films, including 13 Charlie Chan movies, “The Good Earth,” and “Love Is a Many Splendored Thing.”
In 1986, Luke was honored with the first Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed by the Assn. of Asian/Pacific Artists. He was a founder of the Screen Actors Guild, according to the chamber.
