A Bellflower woman was charged Thursday with murder in the death of her lover’s estranged wife, who prosecutors said was stabbed at least 23 times.
Rosa Maria Duvall, 20, also was charged with two counts each of kidnapping and child endangerment and a single count of auto theft.
Authorities allege that Duvall stabbed Carol Ann Lopez, 32, at the victim’s East Los Angeles home on Tuesday. Duvall then stole the victim’s van and abducted her two youngest children, an 18-month-old and 4-year-old, prosecutors charge.
Prosecutors said Duvall abandoned the van and the two abducted children in Lynwood. She then hitchhiked to her Bellflower home, where she was arrested Tuesday evening. She eventually led investigators to the youngsters, who were found unharmed.
Prosecutors said Duvall was romantically involved with the victim’s estranged husband.
