In the La Quinta tournament:
Huntington Beach 86, Cypress 79--Despite a school-record 45 points by Courtney Smalley, Cypress could not get past Huntington Beach in a first-round game. Mustapha Abdi scored 29 points, Bryan Chang added 17 and Jeff Vanderwal had 14 for Huntington Beach.
Katella 83, La Quinta 63--Kevin Carlson scored 17 points, Roger Aria added 16 and Vince Encarnacion had 13 for Katella. Eric Martinez and Brian Carlson each scored 12 points for the Knights. Lloyd Bennet scored 16 points, Dusty Dupree added 12 and Brad Huss had 10 for La Quinta.
In a nonleague game:
Valencia 63, Esperanza 53--Adolfo Gomez scored 13 points and Man Nguyen, Justin Jiminez and John Wilson each scored 11 for Valencia. Brad Evans scored 16 points and Matt Thimgan and Matt Kordik each scored 10 for host Esperanza.
