Hawthorne Blvd. No-Parking Zone Lifted

The Lawndale City Council voted 3 to 2 Thursday to remove parking restrictions along the west side of Hawthorne Boulevard, the city’s main commercial thoroughfare.
Business owners in the area had complained that the no-parking, tow-away zone, in effect between 4 and 6 p.m., was scaring away customers. But supporters of the restrictions said the no-parking zone, which extended between 162nd Street and Redondo Beach Boulevard, improved traffic flow and safety.
Voting in favor of removing the 3-year-old parking restrictions were council members Carol Norman, Bill Johnson and Norm Lagerquist. Mayor Harold Hofmann and Councilman Larry Rudolph dissented.
