Hartman to Run Mile in Sunkist Invitational

Dave Hartman of Canyon High has been added to a national championship mile event in the Sunkist Invitational at the Sports Arena on Jan. 18.

Hartman, the third-place finisher in the Kinney cross-country championships last month, initially was entered in the boys’ two-mile but switched to the mile.

“He said he felt like he was ready to run a fast mile,” Sunkist promoter Don Franken said, “so we moved him into the big race.”

Hartman, who finished third in the 3,200 meters in the 1990 Southern Section 4-A Division championships, has run 9 minutes 6.28 seconds in that event.
