MEN’S BASKETBALL
Catawba College defeated Point Loma Nazarene, 62-59, to give Indian Coach Sam Moir, the 18th winningest active coach in college basketball, his 500th victory.
Guard Andre Godfrey scored a game-high 14 points, including a field goal and foul shot to give Catawba its first lead, 49-48, with 5:42 left in a first-round game in the Peninsula Bank Point Loma Classic at PLNC.
John Greer scored 11 points and Gary Litten and Mark Bulgin 10 each for the Crusaders (7-6), who play Grand Canyon College, a 78-64 winner over Pacific Lutheran, at 7:30 tonight.
