Pete Marine, Moorpark College’s leading wide receiver, said he has orally committed to play football for Arizona State.
A first-team All-Western State Conference Northern Division selection, Marine caught 30 passes--seven for touchdowns--to help Moorpark to a 9-2 record.
Marine said he told Sun Devil Coach Larry Marmie of his decision to attend Arizona State on Sunday during his visit and will sign a letter of intent Feb. 6.
“I have a good opportunity to come in and play right away,” said Marine, who plans to complete his Associate of Arts degree in June.
Marine, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound sophomore from Canoga Park High, also visited UNLV and the University of the Pacific but said he canceled trips to Houston and Memphis State.
Marine’s teammate Ned Russell said he planned to sign Tuesday night with New Mexico State, accepting a full scholarship. He will take classes there during the spring semester.
Russell, a 6-3, 290-pound offensive lineman, began his college career as a freshman redshirt at Cal State Northridge. He played two years at Moorpark and was first-team All-Northern Division this season. Russell, from Crescenta Valley High, said he has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
