Digital Equipment Corp.: The Maynard, Mass., maker of networked computer systems and services said its profit for the second quarter dropped 28% to $111.1 million on revenue of $3.35 billion, an increase of 5% from the year-ago period. The company, which last week announced layoffs for the first time, said it was making progress on cost-cutting efforts but that it had “a lot of work ahead.”
