Controversy Over Protests
The right to protest is guaranteed by our Constitution and I would defend that right for any student or citizen. But the right of civil disobedience is not guaranteed, it never has been, nor should it be.
The sit-in demonstration and takeover of the UCLA building should be answered in two ways:
* If the demonstrators are students, they should be dismissed from school and barred from campus. This type of student should not be supported by taxpayers now or in the future.
* If the demonstrators are not college students, they should be arrested for trespassing.
Immediate action should be taken by the college faculty and administration to inform the students that civil disobedience will not be tolerated.
