Gustav Weder, World Cup two-man bobsled champion driver, drove Switzerland I to the fastest time of the day at Breuil-Cervinia, Italy, in trials for the four-man competition.

Team USA II, driven by Brian Shimer, with Miile Mazzi, Greg Harrell and Edwin Moses, world record-holder in the 400-meter hurdles, had a disappointing time of 1:08.65. Of the 22 sleds, only one was slower. Moses’ 6.29 second pushoff was far behind the 5.63 achieved by Weder’s sled.

The Schneekristall course for Sunday’s World Alpine Championships men’s downhill in Austria was described as extremely tough and dangerous by the skiers after they had made practice runs.
