Kennedy High School withstood Rancho Alamitos’ second-half comeback Friday night, and held on for an 85-70 Garden Grove League victory at Kennedy.
Point guard Ulysses Trammell brought Rancho Alamitos (6-10, 3-6 in league) to within 73-69 when he penetrated for a layup with 2 minutes 12 seconds left in the game.
But Kennedy’s Jeff Cummins answered with a short jump shot, and the Fighting Irish (11-8, 8-1) scored 12 of the game’s final 13 points for the victory.
Cummins, a sophomore swingman, led four Kennedy players in double figures with 21 points. Kennedy guard Brian Faddoul made eight of 13 shots--including two three-pointers--for 18 points.
