ATLANTA — Sen. Albert Gore Jr. of Tennessee is considering a bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1992, the Atlanta Journal reported Saturday.
In an interview, Gore told the newspaper that Democrats should run a “raging moderate from the mid-South” against President Bush.
Gore, who lost the 1988 Democratic nomination to then-Gov. Michael S. Dukakis of Massachusetts, said he expected Bush to be vulnerable on domestic economic issues in the 1992 election, if not on foreign policy.
“I’m thinking seriously about it, but I have not set a timetable or a deadline. I do believe the President is going to be vulnerable because I think he’s going to continue being interested mainly in foreign policy,” Gore said.
