Toros Split Doubleheader

Cal State Dominguez Hills split a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. doubleheader with visiting Cal State Los Angeles Saturday, winning the opener 3-0, but dropping the nightcap, 3-1, in 10 innings.
The Toros lost the first game of the three-game series, 9-7, Friday at Cal State L.A. Armando Plascencia (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season.
Mark Tranberg (6-1) pitched a six-hitter, struck out seven and didn’t give up a walk in the first game Saturday. Ernie Soto delivered a two-run double in the second inning, and John Otte went three for four.
In the second game, Dan Parente, a graduate of El Segundo High and Harbor College, singled home two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give last-place Cal State L.A. the victory.
Dominguez Hills is 6-4 in the CCAA and 11-10-1 overall.
In softball, the Lady Toros had their 15-game winning streak snapped when they split a CCAA doubleheader with visiting Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, losing the first game 4-0, but winning the nightcap, 4-3. Dominguez Hills (15-2-2, 4-2) remains in first place.
