Irvine personal computer makers AST Research and Advanced Logic Research are each introducing computers based on a new Intel Corp. microprocessor, the 486SX, which was unveiled on Monday.
The new chip is said to offer as much as 50% more computing power at lower prices than machines based on the current industry standard chip, the Intel 80386DX.
International Data Corp., a Framingham, Mass., market research firm, predicts sales of machines based on the 486SX chip will overtake sales of machines based on the 386DX in 1993.
