PREP NOTES : Esperanza’s Filbeck Gets Permission to Play
- Share via
Ryan Filbeck, senior pitcher at Esperanza High School, received a permanent injunction Tuesday allowing him to play baseball.
Attorneys representing the Southern Section declined to contest a scheduled hearing in Orange County Superior Court. Filbeck transferred from El Toro to Esperanza before the start of the season but was declared ineligible for varsity baseball by Stan Thomas, Southern Section commissioner.
Filbeck pitched two innings last week after receiving a temporary restraining order in Superior Court that granted him eligibility.
Eric Andrade, an assistant football coach at Santa Margarita High School, has signed a two-year contract to play with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
Andrade, a graduate of Servite High, was an all-Southern Section selection at wide receiver his senior season.
As a senior in 1982, he caught 34 passes for 509 yards and was the favorite target of Friars’ quarterback Steve Beuerlein, now with the Raiders. He helped the Friars to the Big Five Conference title that season.
Andrade played college football at Boise State, where he was an all-Big Sky selection his senior year. He coached one season at Santa Margarita.
