2 More School Officials Volunteer for Pay Cuts

Following the lead of Los Angeles Unified School District Supt. Bill Anton, two other top school administrators have also volunteered to take 10% pay cuts to help the district cope with a 1991-92 budget shortfall of about $317 million.

Deputy Supt. Sid Thompson said he will turn back about $14,300 of his annual $143,243 salary, and the district’s top lawyer, Richard Mason, said his pay cut will amount to about $13,000 of his annual $127,729 salary.

The administrators, along with other employees not based on campuses, took a five-day unpaid furlough last year to help ease budget problems. That furlough reduced Anton’s annual salary to $161,390, so the additional pay cut will cost him about $16,000.
