Orange Coast tries for its third consecutive State men’s volleyball title starting today at Los Angeles Pierce College.
OCC (20-3) takes on Santa Barbara (16-2) tonight at 7:30 in one semifinal match. Santa Barbara, the Western State Conference champion, swept OCC in three games earlier this season.
“Santa Barbara is a very good team,” OCC Coach Bob Wetzel said. “But I can’t imagine they could be playing any better now then they were then. We are playing much better than we were then.”
Long Beach (16-2) plays DeAnza (19-3) in the other semifinal match at 4 p.m. today. OCC, the second-place team from the South Coast Conference, defeated Long Beach, the South Coast Conference champion, twice this season.
The state title match is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and the third-place match is at 4:30 p.m.
