USC, top ranked and the defending national champion, will play Indiana Purdue-Ft. Wayne today in the NCAA men’s volleyball tournament semifinals at Honolulu. No. 2 Cal State Long Beach will play No. 3 Penn State in the other semifinal. Winners will play Saturday for the championship.
The Trojans are 33-1, having lost only to UCLA. Led by 6-foot-7 senior hitter Bryan Ivie, USC is trying to become the first team since Pepperdine (1985-86) to repeat as champion. Long Beach (29-4) finished second to the Trojans in conference play and is hoping for a rematch of last year’s championship match.
