COUNTYWIDE : Housing Project for Elderly to Be Studied

The Ventura County Commission on Human Concerns will review a proposal today to build 74 low- and moderate-income rental units for senior citizens in Simi Valley.
The commission’s Neighborhood Revitalization Committee is working with the state Housing and Community Development Agency and the federal government to secure funding for the project, said Louise Rice-Lawson, a commission board member.
If funding can be obtained, construction would begin in the spring of 1992.
“The city is also working with us very energetically,” Rice-Lawson said. “They have made a commitment to help us with the project.”
Rents would run between $277 and $300 a month for people over 60.
The commission, which came into existence in 1965 as a result of President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty program, is a nonprofit community action agency that develops programs to help the poor, said Christy Bell, resource developer for the organization.
