El Toro’s Pyka Named CIF Scholar-Athlete

Erin Pyka, an All-American swimmer from El Toro High School, has been named the 1990-91 female CIF State scholar-athlete of the year, CIF associate commissioner Margaret Davis announced Tuesday.

Pyka was selected from among 575 applicants for the $2,000 scholarship award. She has maintained a 4.67 grade-point average at El Toro and will attend Harvard University in the fall.

Pyka plans to compete in water polo and swimming at Harvard, where she will study education, international relations and law.

Pyka will be honored June 1 at the State track and field championships at Cerritos College.
