Bobby Rahal raised his best speed more than 4 m.p.h. to a top lap of 226.08 in practice for the Indianapolis 500.
Kevin Cogan also improved 4 m.p.h. to 224.137, and Jim Crawford jumped 6 m.p.h. to 225.643.
Al Unser Jr. improved to 224.534, and Emerson Fittipaldi, with records of 225.575 for one lap and 225.301 for four laps in qualifications last year, remained above 224.
