Winnie Mandela’s trial on kidnaping and assault charges ended with her lawyer asking the judge to ignore the prosecution’s “mess of evidence” and acquit her. Judge Michael S. Stegmann adjourned the trial, which began Feb. 4, until Monday, when he is expected to start delivering his verdict, which could take days to read. Winnie Mandela, wife of African National Congress Deputy President Nelson Mandela, is accused of kidnaping four anti-apartheid activists from a church hostel two years ago and assaulting them in storerooms behind her home.
