Regarding David Weiss’ “A Test of the Philharmonic and Reviewer” (April 29):
I am an unlikely defender of Martin Bernheimer. He strikes me as one who is vain of his carefully researched knowledge, as one who shows off a writing style of doubtful brilliance, as one who feels that he is the lone beleaguered defender of high standards.
Nevertheless, he has ears, always knows what he is writing about and punctures many a balloon--and many a balloon-shaped tenor. He kisses no fanny. Let’s keep him awhile longer. He’s a good flack antidote.
