A 53-year-old man was struck and killed Sunday by a hit-and-run driver while walking with his wife, the Sheriff’s Department reported.

Clemens Ontiveroz was killed at 8:10 a.m. when a pickup truck ran onto the south sidewalk in the 12200 block of Poway Road, just east of Oak Knoll Road, said Sgt. Kate Nolan.

Ontiveroz’s wife, Teresa, was also struck, Nolan said. She was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where she was listed in critical condition.
