1 Wounded in Shootout Between Gang, Guards

An alleged gang member was shot and critically wounded Sunday in a gun battle between security guards and gang members in front of a shopping center at 11th and Alvarado streets, police said.
Several gang members riding in a car opened fire on three security guards about 7:15 p.m., Los Angeles Police Sgt. Alan Bolinger said.
The security guards returned fire, hitting one of the men in the car, he said. Police stopped the vehicle about a block away at 12th and Lake streets, Bolinger said.
The victim, who was shot in the chest, was taken to California Medical Center by paramedics. His name was not available.
