Hazel L. Rogers; Retired Pharmacy Owner

Hazel L. Rogers, who owned Rogers Verdugo Pharmacy in La Crescenta with her husband for more than 40 years, has died at her Montrose home. She was 84.
Mrs. Rogers died Sunday of heart failure, said longtime friend Jackie Dietlein.
Born Hazel Lenger in Fort Morgan, Colo., she came to California following her high school graduation. A graduate of USC, she became a social worker for Los Angeles County and later a teacher at Montrose Elementary School in Montrose.
In 1934, she and her husband, Guy E. Rogers, bought a pharmacy at Honolulu and La Cresenta avenues. Mrs. Rogers worked as a cosmetician and a gift buyer at the pharmacy until her retirement in 1978.
She is survived by two nephews and two nieces. Her husband died in 1975.
A funeral is planned for 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church at La Crescenta, 4441 La Crescenta Ave. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Forest Lawn Mortuary in Glendale is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Mrs. Rogers’ name to the Arthritis Foundation.
