Search Halted for 2 Boys Believed Drowned in River

Rangers have called off a full-scale search of the swift, icy Merced River in Yosemite Valley for two Compton boys who are presumed to have drowned during Memorial Day weekend.
An intensive search failed to find 3-year-old Mario Thomas and 4-year-old Lance Thomas Jr. after they jumped from the roof of a car that had crashed into the stream Saturday. They were swept away, as was a great-aunt who went into the water after them. Her body was recovered.
Crews will continue to check the riverbanks occasionally to see if they can find any trace of the boys’ bodies, a park spokeswoman said.
