SAN CLEMENTE : Roadwork Might Begin This Summer

Construction of $2.1 million in improvements to the freeway interchange at Camino de Estrella and Interstate 5 could begin as early as this summer, according to a report from the city Engineering Department.
The City Council recently voted 5 to 0 to pay Excel Paving Co. $1.7 million for the improvements. Of that amount, $1.4 million will come from developer fees paid to the city by Centex Development Co., which built the inland Forster Ranch community, said a report by Ben Parker, the city’s associate civil engineer.
Proposed improvements include widening the southbound off-ramp at Camino de Estrella, widening and paving Camino de Los Mares east of the freeway, and installing a traffic signal at Camino de Los Mares and a busy shopping center near Camino El Molino.
Parker said construction could begin by the end of this month, and would be completed in about five months.
