Wellmark to Service N.Y. Health-Care Project

Wellmark Inc., a Westlake Village-based provider of electronic services for processing medical claims, said it was chosen to provide claims-clearing services for a new health-care project in New York state.
The project, the Single Payer Demonstration Project, is aimed at increasing efficiency in the processing of third-party insurance claims for health-care providers in New York. It will include an electronic claims-processing service that Wellmark has developed with American Telephone & Telegraph Co.
Wellmark said it is initially required to employ the system in at least 10 hospitals and other health-care facilities, but did not disclose what financial benefit the project would provide the company.
Wellmark is a unit of Primark Corp., a McLean, Va.-based holding company that also has interests in financial services, ground transportation and aircraft maintenance.
