The New York Knicks have asked permission to talk to Laker assistant coach Randy Pfund, General Manager Jerry West said. Pfund could not be reached for comment, but said last week he expected to be contacted and would explore the opportunity. Pfund, 33, was hired out of Westmont College in Santa Barbara in 1985 by Pat Riley, former Laker coach who was recently named Knick coach.
