The Law Will Be on the Run

Eight police officers and two commanders will run the Pasadena leg of the Sacramento-to-San Diego Torch Run, a fund-raising and publicity event for the California Special Olympics, today and Friday.

Supporters pledge dollar amounts for each mile the officers run. The Pasadena stretch is expected to raise $10,000 of the $130,000 expected from the statewide run. The officers will take the torch from runners at the Eagle Rock/Pasadena border at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. They will start from City Hall at 9 a.m. Friday and hand it off to other runners at the South Pasadena border.

Opening ceremonies for the games are at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Drake Stadium on the UCLA campus. Athletes from 65 areas statewide will compete Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.
