Four teen-agers were arrested over the weekend in connection with the beating earlier this month of a Chinese-American youth and two white friends in a park, bringing the total of arrests in the case to nine, police said.
Police still expect to arrest at least three more people, Lt. Jeff Roop said.
Police arrested two 17-year-olds, one from Anaheim and one from San Bernardino County, on suspicion of aggravated assault and violation of a victim’s civil rights.
The same charges have been filed against two 17-year-olds who already were being held in Juvenile Hall in an unrelated stabbing that occurred in Huntington Beach on July 7, the same night as the attack on the Chinese-American youth. The suspects are from La Habra and Huntington Beach, police said.
The attack on the Chinese-American occurred at Gilman Partin Park in Fullerton. Originally, detectives were investigating the youth’s claim that he was beaten by four or five people while others stood by. But “the more we interviewed, the more the suspects implicate themselves or others” in the actual physical violence, Roop said.
