COUNTYWIDE : Sorority to Tutor Families in Math
- Share via
The Orange County chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority is kicking off a tutoring program to improve the math skills of both youngsters and their parents.
The Family Math program brings parents and students in elementary through junior high schools together to study basic mathematical concepts using games and puzzles.
Fran Williams, president of the chapter, said the group is now training members who will begin working with about 30 families at four area sites this fall.
The program will be free and open to the public, but Williams said she is hoping to reach frustrated African-American teen-agers who may otherwise drop out of school.
