WORLD IN BRIEF : IRAQ : Inspector Tells of Nuclear Shell Game

Iraq hid 17 pounds of radioactive material from three U.N. inspection teams and drove it around the country on trucks before finally yielding it to a fourth team, the team’s chief inspector said. David Kay, leader of the 20-man team that is winding up two weeks of inspections in Iraq, said the Iraqis had admitted having the irradiated uranium, which was to be used to produce plutonium, after his group arrived on July 27. After the arrival of Kay’s team, Iraq also admitted having 3 grams of plutonium, produced illegally in a nuclear plant.
