Charles Cropsey, for 17 years the public information officer at Compton Community College, died of bone cancer last week at his Gardena home. He was 63.
He had been on crutches the last few months of his working life at the college.
Before coming to the college, Cropsey worked in international commerce, in publishing and as a commercial photographer. He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Hispanic-American studies, and also held a bachelor’s in foreign trade from the American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, Ariz.
Cropsey is survived by his sister and her two children of Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.; and by a son, Peter, who lives in Costa Mesa.
There will not be a funeral. Cropsey’s family and friends ask that those wishing to remember him make a donation to a favorite charity.
