U.S. Steel Production Falls: Steel output in the United States declined by an annual rate of 11.8% in July to 6.5 million metric tons, the International Iron & Steel Institute said. It added that July output in the Soviet Union, the world’s biggest producer, fell to 10.9 million metric tons, 13.5% lower than a year ago. Japan’s output rose 0.7% to 9.3 million metric tons. European Community production amounted to 11.2 million metric tons, down 2.3%.
