Charlie Zaby Dies at Age 82

ANAHEIM — Charlie Zaby, who has helped operate family businesses here and in Los Angeles for nearly 50 years, died Friday of a heart attack. He was 82.
A center fielder for the Hollywood Stars of the Pacific Coast League in the 1930s, Zaby was the head cashier at Zaby’s Market in Los Angeles in 1943-75. He then helped run Zaby’s Motor Lodge near Disneyland.
Zaby was born in Italy and immigrated with his family in 1909. He lived in Southern California for more than 70 years.
A Rosary is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday at the Biby & Belyea Mortuary in South Gate and a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Calvary Cemetery’s main chapel in East Los Angeles.
Zaby is survived by his wife, Bernice, of South Gate, seven brothers and five sisters.
